ABOUT THE PARTNER
VSO Mozambique has been partnering with The Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC) since 1997.
Following the Mozambican Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Strategy MEC established ICT centres in all the provinces. MEC?s ICT Department is responsible for the ICT centres located in all the provinces. MEC has requested the support of VSO Mozambique in strengthening the programming capacity of the its ICT department.
THE VOLUNTEER?S ROLE INCLUDES:
?Basic scripting;
?Database connection and query;
?Gather application requirements;
?Create Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) document;
?Create secured dynamic web pages;
?Create database linked web pages;
?Create web forms;
?Browser compatibility testing;
?Application vulnerability and functionality testing;
?Support the Head of the ICT Department in training other staff in programming and the management of ICT centres.
TRAINING AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT
Our training and support package covers the costs of being an overseas volunteer, allowing you to enjoy a modest but healthy lifestyle while you volunteer abroad. This includes:
?Attendance at a CUSO-VSO assessment day (candidates are expected to cover the first $150 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and accommodation costs).
?Travel and accommodation costs associated with five day pre-departure training course held in Ottawa.
?Return airfare and visa/permit (this includes a return flight in the case of a family emergency).
?Coverage for required vaccinations, medications and health insurance.
?Accommodation while overseas.
?A modest living allowance, which varies depending on the country where you are placed.
?Quarterly payments to support you in your placement

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential:
?Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Information Technology/Systems, or related;
?5 years experience in software development;
?Experience in MS Access, Visual Basic, Visual Basic.NET, Java;
?Experience in Relational Databases, preferably Microsoft SQL Server;
?Strong language learner and ability to learn Portuguese;
?Willingness to share accommodation with another volunteer
Desirable:
?Training experience;
?Management experience;
