The International Banking Systems (IBS) Development group supports the automation of branches and subsidiaries in the Caribbean, Central and South America, and Asia Pacific regions.  Multiple technology platforms are used, including IBM AS/400’s running the ScotiaGlobe core Retail Banking system,  Microsoft Windows platform running the Branch Sales and Service applications (Counselor CRM, Application Processing and Teller Platform),  A Middleware application (SOA, Broker, TRIAD common interface) running on AIX platform is used to interface with many Alternate Delivery Channel applications (such as Telephone Banking, Internet Banking, ABM etc.) and  External Vendor applications (such as Debt Manager, TRIAD, Credit Card Service provider FDR, Trans Union Credit Bureau, Origination Manager Decision Model etc.) Reporting to the Director - SG Architecture Support, you will manage and provide support for the banks databases.  You will assist in the team effort to maximize the availability, security, and performance of the databases. Accountabilities ·         Participate in data modeling and data access programming during the development of applications supported by International Systems Development. ·         Define development, support, and administration standards for supported databases. ·         Configuration planning and installation of Database servers, performance and general health /capacity monitoring. ·         Tuning and load balancing of servers.   Do routine maintenance including database rebuilds/re-indexing/expansion and archiving.          Trouble shoots Database server problems, and assists in the resolution of application problems.   ·         Assists in database upgrade and data conversions. Backup and recovery of   local and remote replicated databases. ·         Provide beeper support to production systems as assigned; involves week end and after hours support as needed. ·         Provide DBA support to development/implementation projects as assigned, doing installations, database loading, conversions, testing etc. ·         Prepare change control documentation. Maintain the database monitoring systems.  Document standards for database design, coding, support and administration.  Participate in data modeling for major projects. Competencies ·         Minimum 5 years of practical DBA experience. ·         Sound practical knowledge of the following: Windows, AIX and AS/400 operating system and utilities.  Bourne or Korn shell script writing.   MS-SQL, DB2 on AIX, DB2 on AS/400  (device configuration,  installation,  stored procedures & packages,  SQL, Replication & Standby databases,  database re-build / de-fragment techniques,   logical & physical backup / recovery techniques. ·         Understanding of Application and database server performance tuning.  Perl script.   Use of   raid, disk stripping, shared memory etc. ·         Experience with high availability solutions and partitioning. ·         Must be familiar with OEM & OMS repository based management and administration.    ·         Good analytical, problem solving and trouble shooting skills. ·         Quick learner, with good interpersonal and communication skills. ·         Experience in supporting Informix would be an asset. Education Post secondary education in computer science, Math, or related discipline. Additional information The incumbent will be required to carry a pager and be on call for after hours support of the banks databases. The incumbent must be prepared to do shift work as well as provide remote dial in support, or occasionally on-site support in response to routine monitoring alerts and scheduled & unscheduled maintenance tasks occurring after hours and on week ends.   Scotiabank is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from all interested parties.
