Job Summary Business analysts are responsible for identifying the business needs of their clients and stakeholders, to determine solutions to business problems. As a translator between the users and the IT group, he or she elicits, analyzes, validates and documents business, organizational and/or operational requirements. The Intermediate Business Analyst can do simple versions of tasks at hand with some coaching. The Intermediate Business Analyst is part of the business analysis team and reports to the Manager of Business Analysis. Responsibilities Elicit Requirements: Employs facilitation techniques in discussing requirements with clients and users. Uses specific group and collaborative methods for collecting requirements. Done through brainstorming, JAD/RAD sessions, and structured walkthroughs. Create Business Requirements Document: Publishes, distributes, and ensures sign-off of the business requirements document. Controls changes to the requirements baseline through documentation and analysis via a formalized change request. Structured Analysis: Communicates with clients using data and process models to clarify and validate requirements. Done through use-case diagramming, entity relationship diagrams, functional decomposition, data flow modeling, activity diagrams, and decision tables and trees. Testing: Designs user acceptance test plans and test cases. Done using entity relationship diagrams and use case diagrams to develop test plans. End User Support: Develops end user training content for use in instructor-led and technology based training. Business / IT Fluency: Displays to peers, technology team, and clients a basic understanding of business and IT concepts. Done by working with clients and developers/administrators to develop as-is and to-be states of products from a systems perspective. Business Process Analysis: Participates in workflow analysis and other business process analysis to identify and clarify requirements. Done by conducting structured walkthroughs with clients using workflow diagrams. Change Agency: Understands process and issues inherent in change management and plans accordingly; instills confidence and trust in others; coordinates resources across departments/units; evaluates measures, plans and deliverables for alignment; acknowledges individual’s responses to change and helps them adjust. Create Functional Specification Document: Publishes, distributes, and ensures sign-off of the functional specification document. Develop system design specifications for the solution. Done through consultation with the development team and formal design sessions with clients. Build Business Relationships: Engages with business owners from affected business areas to understand current processes and document business requirements. Done by using functional decomposition diagrams and requirements gathering techniques to understand the business need. Experience : • 5+ years experience in a relevant industry vertical. (Retail, Wholesale Distribution, CPG, etc.) • 2+ years experience in Business Analysis practice • Proven proficiency / mastery of junior Business Analyst competencies • Experience with package (COTS) customization and deployment • Experience with Product Lifecycle, Sales Order, Retail, Supply Chain, Finance, and/or Human Capital management systems is an asset • Knowledge of ITIL Framework and IT Service Management (ITSM) is an asset Skills Required: Communication: Ability to formulate concepts; communication of technical information to a non-technical audience; communication of business information to a technical audience. Business: Knowledge of business processes; ability to have a business-oriented vision; case development; business writing; modeling techniques. Analytical: analytical and conceptual expertise; documentation, analysis and business requirements management techniques; object-oriented analysis; evaluation of profitability/risk; testing, verification and validation techniques.
