Vertex Pharmaceuticals (Canada) Inc. (located in Laval, Quebec) is seeking a motivated computational chemist to join our research team to plan, manage, and execute modeling and simulation strategies in specific drug programs and therapeutic areas. This individual will be responsible for leading the lead optimization programs at this site using methods encompassing all computational aspects of drug discovery. In addition to molecular modeling, this individual will work in close collaboration with the Chemistry, Biology and DMPK groups to provide expertise in competitive intelligence, data analysis, bioinformatics and other related areas. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Coordinate the design and execution of chemistry computational efforts with scientists to maximize the on on-going projects. Evaluate commercial software, and recommend purchases. Work with the internal methods development group to develop and deploy relevant software tools to drug discovery teams. PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A a research doctoral degree Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Computational Chemistry or related discipline At least 5 years of pharmaceutical or biotech experience with a demonstrated track record of contributions to drug discovery projects Experience in applying molecular modeling methods to structure, ligand and fragment-based drug discovery. Expert knowledge of the state-of-the-art computational chemistry and its application to drug discovery. Experience with commercial molecular modeling and data mining software. Expertise with a wide array of computational methods including QSAR, structure and ligand-based virtual screening,and ADME modeling. Experience with large scale data mining and data analysis. Excellent oral and written communication skills French and English, an asset.    Vertex creates new possibilities in medicine.
