A for-profit corporation wholly owned by the University of Calgary, UTI was launched June 1, 1989, with a mandate to provide services on all matters related to technology commercialization and commercialization of intellectual property. The U of C was its initial client and UTI has since added numerous other research institutions including the University of Lethbridge, Calgary Regional Health Authority and major corporate clients. In addition UTI assists a growing number of research-involved large and small businesses and institutions.
UTI is managed by experienced business professionals and guided by an independent board of directors from the Alberta business and professional community.
UTI 's expertise is the communication of technology-based business opportunities. This requires a broad skill set including strategy, marketing, license negotiations and customer service. UTI offers its clients and customers an extensive inventory of potential products coupled with an expanding network of potential licensees in a wide spectrum of disciplines.
