A few years ago when Jean-Pierre Poulin tried to rent out an apartment the conventional way with signs and newspaper ads he had no takers. But when he posted an ad of the apartment on a start-up internet site, the property was snapped up in just eight days.
An idea was born.
The idea of a site where home buyers and renters could see pictures of a home inside and out, take a virtual reality tour and check out the look of the neighbourhood, too. A site that gives home buyers a better way to browse and real estate agents a better way to showcase their listings.
Where anyone could check out virtually anything in virtual reality, today 3D Visit Inc. is the largest provider of virtual tours in Canada. With its headquarters in Gatineau, Quebec, 3D Visit covers 13 regions in Quebec and 22 regions in Ontario plus Calgary, Alberta and Kelowna BC,. This year the company plans to expand operations across the country through it's network of Distributors.
Since it was launched in September 1999, the company has focused on establishing partnerships with national companies such as RE/MAX, Royal Lepage and Century 21, with major real-estate players in each region and with other companies in which virtual tours can boost business. 3D Visit provides virtual photography services and web site home page hosting for their clients. Each member agent, for example, lists properties on the 3D Visit site, as well as offers virtual tours on their own site, the broker's site, MLS.ca, etc.
In addition, 3D Visit's web site, 3Dvisit.com, is the largest portal for virtual tours in Canada, with over 400,000 visitors per month.
