The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is one of Canada's newest universities. It was officially opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in August 1994. The University's core campus is located in Prince George, but UNBC is a regional university, with teaching and research centres located throughout northern British Columbia.
In the few years since the official opening, the student body at UNBC has more than doubled. About 3200 students are now registered in a wide variety of programs in the arts, sciences, and professional programs.
