ABOUT TARA
Located in historic downtown Halifax, TARA (Telecom Applications Research and Development) is a unique facility that combines cutting-edge telecommunications research and development equipment with seed investment funding, business mentoring and networking resources. TARA also hosts Canada's only Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) certification lab as well as the Master of Internetworking course in affiliation with Dalhousie University. JOINT INITIATIVE
Founded in 1995, TARA began as an initiative of Nortel Networks, MTT and the Technical University of Nova Scotia (now DalTech) to create a world-class telecommunications R&D facility. In 1996 Cisco Systems Canada signed on, adding their Intra- and Internetworking expertise to the equation. PRIVATE ENTERPRISE
TARA is a private enterprise made up of an alliance of Members and Affiliates each enrolled under one of four Membership levels. This distinctive structure, coupled with the technical and business expertise of our staff, enables TARA to fulfil its mandate to assist its Members in the development and exploitation of communication network applications and services. Only at TARA can companies with thousands of employees tap into the innovation and entrepreneurial talent of small, young companies while at the same time allowing small firms with only a handful of employees to gain access to industry leaders like Nortel Networks, MTT and Cisco Systems Canada. NETWORKING THOUGH PARTNERSHIP
Networking Through Partnership reflects TARA's unique role as both a place to develop applications and services for telephony and Internet-based computer networks as well as a place to form dynamic connections with other Member organizations. THE TECHNOLOGY
A key benefit of TARA Membership is access to TARA's unrivalled laboratory facilities which include Telephony and Internetworking labs, an MTT Service Development Lab and the DalTech teaching lab. The labs are closely interconnected by TARA's network infrastructure and each may be used by Members to validate designs, test new products and verify the interoperability of different system configurations.
