Female Computing Science Student AcknowledgedIn acknowledgement of her academic excellence and achievements as an ambassador for women in her field, Simba Technologies has awarded Mareija Eskelinen (North Shore resident) the Simba Technologies Inc. Scholarship in Computing Science.Eskelinen, a third year computing science student at Simon Fraser University, can apply the $500 scholarship to covering tuition, books and living expenses. Simba awards the scholarship twice annually to a female undergraduate student studying computing science full-time at SFU who demonstrates outstanding academic performance and documented community/volunteer service. A Simba Technologies? endowment to SFU funds the scholarship. "Mareija's achievement reflects the tenets on which this award is based," says Amyn Rajan, Simba's CEO. "This scholarship follows our commitment to promote gender diversity in computing science while recognizing and assisting B.C.'s brightest talent in reaching their educational goals." "SFU is proud to work closely with industry partners, such as Simba Technologies, that share our commitment to academic excellence and students," says Nimal Rajapakse, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. "Awards such as these are more than just money for students. They give students confidence in their abilities and open doors for future opportunities, in this case for women in the world of computing science." Rajapakse notes that Rajan, a well-accomplished SFU Faculty of Applied Science alumnus, is giving back to students, the community and computing science by bestowing this award.
