The focus of this session will be raising capital for mobile ventures. It will include participation from Sean Wise of Wise Mentor Capital, Ted Anderson, Managing General Partner from Ventures West and Steven Bloom, Chief Financial Officer from Brightspark. The panel will provide guidance and their experience to attendees. Also, as a part of this session three budding mobile moguls from the Toronto area will be given the opportunity to pitch the Venture Capital panel on the merits of their business or idea, and why they should receive funding. Over the last 7 years, he has lectured at more than 100 bootcamps, financing forums and industry conferences. He has trained over 3000 entrepreneurs who collectively raised more than $900M from a wide variety of investment sources. Sean sits on the Boards of several young technology companies, as well as the Banff Venture Forum and the Toronto Venture Group. He is the Chair of the 2007 Canadian Venture Forum and a member of both the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Venture Capital Association. He also works with many not-for-profit groups including the Hospital for Sick Kids. Sean's monthly column (entitled Wise Words) on Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship appears in the Globe and Mail. Ted Anderson - Managing General Partner, Ventures West Ted Anderson joined Ventures West in 1996 and is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the firm. He is also involved with the firm's investment activities, with a focus on IT, telecommunications and semiconductors. Ted also represents Ventures West as the General Partner of the Eastern Technology Seed Investment Fund, a venture capital fund co-managed by Ventures West that was created in 1997 to provide seed stage financing for early stage technology projects in Eastern Canada. Ted is a veteran of the Canadian venture capital industry with over 20 years experience in private equity investment. Ted began his career in venture financing in 1982 with Royal Bank Venture Capital and moved to BG Acorn Capital Fund in 1985. Ted currently serves as a Director of AudienceView Software, Fortiva Inc., and Fresco Microchip. He is a past President and a former director of the Canadian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association, as well as an instructor in the MBA program at the Schulich School of Business at York University. Ted holds a B.A. (Honours) in economics from the University of Toronto and an MBA from York University. Steven Bloom - Chief Financial Officer, Brightspark Steven Bloom is a C.A. and C.P.A. with over 10 years of experience in the technology industry. After spending several years at Ernst & Young, Steven participated in the growth of two separate technology start-ups in senior finance positions. Most recently, he served as Vice President, Finance with Descartes Systems Group Inc., one of Canada's leading public software companies and a specialist in e-business technologies, helping to take the company through its Nasdaq listing.
