Canada's advanced Internet organization turns 10 years old

TORONTO, April 17 /CNW/ - Mark the occasion with leading Canadian
thinkers - and watch advanced networks link students from sea to sea to sea in
the most high-tech version of O Canada in history.

On Monday April 28th, leaders from Canada's advanced communications
industry, research, academia and E-business will gather in Toronto to discuss
the role broadband communications networks will play in keeping Canadian
businesses competitive. The E-Canada conference marks the 10th anniversary of
CANARIE, Canada's advanced Internet organization, and is co-hosted by ORION,
the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network.

The conference will kick off with the first-ever singing of the national
anthem over CA(*)net 4, Canada's research and innovation network - with
students in Vancouver, Edmonton, Iqaluit, Toronto, Buckingham, Ottawa and
St. John's. The trilingual performance - in English, French and Inuktitut -
will be recorded and presented to the National Archives of Canada to
commemorate the future of communication in Canada.

An E-business panel will address current issues for Canadian companies
including productivity improvements, E-tools and the role of technology in
corporate competitiveness. Guest speakers at E-Canada will be author and
Internet expert Rick Broadhead, former Toronto Mayor Barbara Hall, who will
discuss the implication of advanced technology on urban communities, and Tom
Wolf, Senior VP E-business at the Royal Bank of Canada. The conference will be
