SMB VDI growing by 40%+ in Canada
San Jose, CA, September 4, 2012: A new primary research of 830 SMBs in Canada conducted by Techaisle shows that the Canada SMB VDI market spend could grow nearly six times from US$20 million in 2011 to $120 million in 2016. Techaisle expects VDI penetration within the 50-999 employee size businesses to grow rapidly to 13 percent by 2016 and the overall number of VDI seats to reach 720,000. Increase in awareness and number of channel partners along with use cases could make the market grow even faster.
Key drivers of VDI adoption include IT management cost reduction, access to applications from anywhere and on any device (BYOD), better secure data & infrastructure and improved availability of applications. Over 60 percent of SMBs have shown preference for on-premise VDI but hosted VDI (DaaS) shows the highest planned adoption growth rates across small business segment.
Although SMBs are ideal customers for VDI there are many factors inhibiting adoption. Chief among them are proof of concept and deployment ease. 37 percent of SMBs also cite lack of expertise and a high percentage of SMBs have not given any serious thought to using VDI.
Among the verticals Healthcare, Financial Services and Professional Business Services are early adopters of VDI. Financial firms are being primarily driven by the security and compliance requirements in their adoption of VDI, which allows them greater control over their applications and data than using individual clients. Professional Services firms are being driven toward VDI by the increasing mobility of their employees and the resulting heterogeneity of client access devices.
